The Massage School

by Elizabeth Yankel
(Easthampton, MA)

The Massage School is awesome! Their training is fast, affordable and clearly superior. My friends and I are all so happy we chose to study there! They now have 2 locations, Acton and Easthampton.

Adjunct schools

Considering them, live close to Acton. No information on web page about adjunct sites instructors or level of satisfaction. Has anyone trained at the Acton facility, and what was your experience?

OK but not great

I wish I could give this school a higher rating because I believe in its ideals and mission that massage therapy education should be affordable. But if I could do it all over again, I would choose another school.

The tuition is cheap and two of the massage teachers are good, but overall, I believe I could've received a better education elsewhere. You will learn a decent massage routine but they do not teach enough options -no shoulder girdle options, no pelvic girdle options... Basically, it's one one-hour routine and that's it.

If you want to learn how to protect yourself using proper body mechanics...well, you're on your own. Very little to no instruction is given on how to stand and use body weight and how to avoid repetitive stress injuries that are so common in this field. I saw most students in the clinic giving treatments without bending their knees, not using their body weight, with their shoulders up to their ears. Ouch.

There is no faculty present at the student clinic, so many students need to rely on client feedback to track their progress. It would've been helpful to have a faculty member present for questions, to correct students' posture and body mechanics, and to give instruction if, for instance, a client wants more time spent on the shoulders. At this student clinic, you kind of just have to make stuff up as you go along.

The amount of money I am going to have to pay on continuing education classes to get myself caught up to my professional colleagues will probably negate any savings I made by attending the school with cheaper tuition.
