Swedish Massage Classes
Of all the massage types and techniques, the Swedish massage is probably the most commonly practiced one and the one best known by those that enjoy its benefits.
This massage has proven over the years to be very therapeutic to those that receive it. Masseuse clients often return asking for the same type of Swedish massage that they had been given in the previous session.
The Swedish massage will ask you to adapt to the use of certain methods while giving the massage. You will need to use a combination of long, gliding strokes, kneading of individual muscles, friction, hacking or tapping, and vibration. The long, gliding strokes will require the use of oils so that your movements on your client's backs will remain fluid and not scuff their skin. When practicing Swedish massage, all concentration should be on the direction of the blood flow and this should be followed when applying the long strokes of the massage. This type of massage is well known for its improving the circulatory system and blood flow.
The pressure that you use for a Swedish massage should be firm, but gentle. Creating and maintaining this type of pressure for your client will help them in their pursuit of relaxing their muscles, working tensions out of their bodies, and improving their own flexibility. If the pressure you use is too hard, they will begin to feel discomfort and instead of relaxing their mind will constantly be on the pressure that they are not enjoying. If the pressure that you use, on the other hand, is not enough, they will not be able to fully enjoy the relaxing and stress relieving benefits that come should come along with their massage.
The "draping" technique is used with the Swedish massage. This is where a towel covers the body of the client. As you work on one area of the body, you uncover only that area. When done massaging, you cover that area again and uncover the next area that you will work on. This is an approach in which you treat each set of muscles individually. The relaxing and pain and stress relieving benefits of this technique have become renowned in the world of massage. The "draping" technique is often used in other types of massage as well as Swedish.
The Swedish massage is the most well known and most often practiced in massage therapies. It has many benefits, each of which affects a different part of the body. The practice of this type of massage is essential to any masseuse as clients commonly request it. It is favored and therefore one of the staples in the massaging community. You will have a hard time finding a massage school that does not include Swedish Massage classes in their curriculum.
