national certification

Hello,
I am considering a move to Florida to work at a spa in Key Largo. I am a licensed massage therapist in New York State. I was told by my prospective employer that I would need my national certification to be able to work at her spa in Florida. Where can I find out when the next exam in my area is being held, and how much is costs to enroll for it?

Your prospective employer is only half right. First of all you need to have your transcripts from the New York school compared with the state requirements for FL. I already know that you will have to take an ethics and law course from FL from a certified school. Next, New york is a licensed state. If you took the NCBTMB and are current with them, then all you have to do is apply to the state of FL for a license with the test results your transcripts and proof that you took the ethics and laws course, plus anything else that you might be deficient in. If you are not current, then you will have to take the MBLEX exam or the NCBTMB exam. FL accepts both. You cannot practice in the state of FL with out a license. the NCBTMB is not a license.

Fla once required Watsu or water massage due to the plethora of aged folks in that state.
