Location and Certification

Obviously, you find a school that is either near where you live, or where you are willing to move to. Once that is decided, look carefully at a few things. First, make sure they are certified. If they offer certification through NCBTMB, that's important.

Also, make sure they have a good reputation and have been around. This will help when it comes to getting your first job as a therapist, as they will have nothing to look at except your schooling.

And try to attend a school that promotes free or low cost massages to the public. This will show an ability to work with a variety of types of customers.

Other considerations for choosing a massage school.

I certainly agree that convenience is important when deciding on which school to attend, and that the school should have a curriculum that allows students to become Nationally Certified after graduating. The reputation of the school and how long they have been in business is very important. Schools that offer massages to the public permit students to gain the much needed practice and experience.

I chose Alpha School of Massage in Jacksonville. They have a very experienced staff (7 to over 10 years for all staff). The school has a large student clinic and you must complete 200 actual massage sessions on the public by the time you graduate!
