I think that as your career progresses your employment type will evolve. It's usually best to start out as an employee. You will have the chance to build clientèle while receiving a regular income.

Pay attention to how the business is actually run, accounting, insurance, marketing, etc,. This is your free education that will prove invaluable to you later.

As you begin to build your clientèle you may begin to branch out into subcontracting and eventually opening your own practice.
