Deep Tissue Massage Courses
For those that are suffering from chronic pain in one particular location, a deep tissue massage may be the way to put an end to the suffering.
Since this type of massage works only one area of muscles, all massage focus is relayed to that group of muscles. This would be the type of massage someone may get simply to work out a particular muscle group, not an overall relaxation of the muscles.
A deep tissue massage is exactly as it sounds. It is a massage that works itself deep into the group of muscles that are affected. If a client comes in with a mid-back problem due to some unforeseen incident, the massage is started in that location on the surface only at first. The massage may go to other muscle groups, but will return to the original location. Each return to the particular location will bring a further exploration into the group of muscles being affected.
It is imperative that the descent into the muscle group is slow. If you go too quickly to the deeper tissues, you will run the risk of the muscles tightening and you not being able to get to that deeper tissue at all which will render the massage for pain relieving purposes useless. Each time you return to the affected group of muscles, you should apply slightly more pressure than you did the previous time. Eventually you will work your way into that deeper tissue and be able to work out the problems that your client is having. You can read a good description of what happens to the muscles during a deep tissue massage here.
Your deep tissue massage courses will introduce your "tools" for giving this type of massage; your elbows, opposing thumbs, the heel of your hand or foot, and your 3 and 6 fingers. These "tools" will allow you to work effectively while you ease your way into the deeper tissues that will provide relief to those you are working on. Each "tool" will work in its own way with the appropriate amount of pressure applied. A tool that you should not need for this type of massage is massage oil. Since you are primarily working with muscle groups, your massaging hands will not use long strokes; therefore they will not need lubrication in the form of massage oils.
A deep tissue massage can provide a world of relief to those who receive it and is reflected in the growing demand for deep tissue massage courses at popular massage schools. It is a massage technique that is commonly used with athletes because they frequently pull and damage muscles. Overly stressed people also often benefit from this type of massage as stress will often reveal itself in the form of muscle tension in a particular group of muscles. This method of massage is hard work for the masseuse as you will be applying pressure you may not be used to applying, but the benefits to the client will keep them coming back.
