Community Involvement is Key

I found that by offering free sample massages at community events, I got a lot of interest. Places like gym openings, fitness stores, fitness / wellness / nutrition fairs at college campuses or sponsored by a community organization are great places.
I set up a chair and offered 5 minutes free and had my card available, or places like church fairs and carnivals, I did a dollar a minute, with a ten minute limit. I had tons of cards and some brochures and gave them away, and I got a lot of calls in the next few weeks.
People want to feel comfortable with their therapist, so getting to try it out is a good way to meet potential clients and get your name out there, and if you show you are interested in what they are (the church, the organization, whatever), that makes a stronger connection.
I looked online at the county website, and in free publications at the grocery store, the community calendar at the library, and just started contacting people listed, asking if they wanted a massage therapist. They were pretty psyched, for the most part, and I got to meet a lot of people that way.
